We are fully aware that such a holistic approach requires a large number of comrades-in-arms and also constructive-critical suggestions for improvement. The crises of recent years, and in particular the Corona crisis, have repeatedly demonstrated that the European political system is reaching its limits. The unanimity principle makes it possible to block important and urgent reforms in the EU. The economic, health, climatic and social challenges will reach a level not previously thought possible by 2030. For all this, we need an effective Europe in competition with other states.
he present white paper for a European Workshop for the Future is a first step. The well-founded concerns and needs within the European population should be heard in this moderated way. The mutual blockages and ideological debates must be overcome in concrete terms and not just discussed away in order to regain the confidence of the electorate in the EU. In addition, pragmatic solutions are to be developed for people’s problems in order to make the European idea directly tangible.
